Annalisa:   in 2018 I was at the end of my rope and I didn’t even know it.   All my relationships were becoming less important to me and it felt like I was becoming less important to them. The only  important thing was my bottle (or two) of wine at the end of the day. This had become my religion, my ritual, my cure-all.

I suffer from chronic illness and have had many surgeries throughout my life. I struggle with pain management and with medication management. My doctor, out of ideas, suggested I try a glass of wine every evening to dull the pain. If only she had known.

By 2018 I was a full-blown alcoholic and defensive about it too because it was my “medicine.” When I walked in the rooms of AA I needed to not only find sobriety but also find a way to find peace inside my body. That was when I found yoga.

I had done 40 days training at Namaspa and had no interest in sweating but enjoyed the yin. It was the first time in my life I was able to sit still for a minute and listen to my body; It blew my mind. Like the classic addict, I needed more; I signed up to do the yoga teacher training.

I am now a 200-hour yoga certified teacher and proud sober woman. I would be happy to share my journey with you and help facilitate yours. It would be an honor to trudge this road of happy destiny together.

Andrea: My entire life has opened up since adopting a regular yoga practice. I was so broken and closed off when I first came to Namaspa. I was suffering from decades of chronic back pain and had just undergone a full knee replacement. I was also very new in recovery.

For months I just came to my mat to enjoy the heat and temporary relief of my pain. Soon discovering I was also experiencing relief mentally and emotionally. I was beginning to heal and find joy in my life. With a great deal of support and encouragement from Namaspa, and my family, I found myself attending YTT fall of 2018.

The experience was transformative. I learned to love myself more, to be able to open up space for new possibilities and to let go of the part(s) of my past that no longer served me. 2 years later I am literally pain free. I'm teaching yoga at Namaspa and working with the Namaspa Foundation to bring yoga to those who would not otherwise have access to this practice which has changed my life in so many ways. I believe that a grateful practice generates authentic happiness that can fill a room. I look forward to meeting you on your mat with gratitude and curiosity for what’s to come.
